  1. The " Multi-store " concept
To its clients, SIR Solutions offers the capacity of transmitting information (price changes, new publicity or flyers, new product definitions, etc.) from their corporate headquarters to points of sale at different branches. In addition to the benefit of being able to communicate directly with its affiliated businesses, the corporate headquarters will be able to quickly obtain detailed reports on its stores, individually or in groups according to their location.

Many of our customers (Métro, Uniprix, Sobey's , Harnois, Proxim, etc.) use this efficient means of transmitting information. SIR Solutions does everything in its power to adapt its technology to its customers' needs.

In short, " Multi-Store " is an IT communication concept which links corporate headquarters to its various branches.

  2. The " Web Services " concept
SIR Solutions offers to those companies using the " Multi-Store " concept an easy way of transmitting information. With our " Web Services ", branch employees can access certain information stored in their corporate headquarters' central databanks.

This product-related information will give insight on various characteristics:
    • Type
Indicates the category to which the product belongs (ex: cleaning products).

    • Description
Indicates the physical properties of the product (ex: height, weight, packaging, etc.).

    • Origin
      Indicates the product's origin.

    • Price
Indicates the price of the product..

    • Taxation
Indicates if the product is taxable and, if so, the applicable rate.

    • Deals
Indicates if there are any changes in the product price.

It is also possible to transmit other product characteristics in a timely, reliable and secure manner. For example, the corporate headquarters could choose to transmit various updates concerning product lists.

  3. Bar Code
A barcode is a sequence of clear and dark bars of variable widths which translate into a sequence of numerical or alphanumerical characters according to a predefined " alphabet " destined to be automatically interpreted by an optical reader.

All products sold in international trade are numbered and are associated with an internationally standardized barcode.

When using a yellow light optical reader, the areas between the black bars can be white, red or yellow. Most optical readers use a visible red light with a wave-length of between 632.8 and 680 nanometres.

Today, the barcode is the most common technical solution used to automatically acquire information. This situation is primarily due to the massive computerization implemented by companies in the last years and to the numerous benefits of the barcode, a tool which links paper to the computers.

    Among its qualities are:
    • Reliability and quickness.
    • The redundancy of the information given by the barcode guarantees its validity, even if a part of the code is unreadable because of a printing error, a small tear or rubbing.
    • Easy to use and low printing costs.

  4. Price Checker
The price checker, or " Pricer Fire ", consists of computer equipment which is linked to the point-of-sale. It allows users to read barcodes on products and therefore to indicate the name and price of the product to customers who wish to purchase it. The price verifier is more than often installed in large stores. Indeed, business owners are obligated by law to install one price checker per 6200 square feet of floor area.

  5. SQL
SQL (Structured Query Language) is a computer language designed for the retrieval and management of data in relational database management systems.

    • SQL is a Data Definition Language (DDL).
It allows the user to create, alter or delete tables in a relational database.

    • SQL is a Data Manipulation Language (DML).
It allows the user to select, insert, modify or delete data in relational database tables.

    • SQL is a Data Control Language (DCL).
It permits the user to control who has access within the database.

  6. DIPS = Desjardins Integrated Payment System
Solutions that allow you to accept all traditional electronic payment methods (debit cards, credit cards, private label cards) as well as Desjardins-specific methods (Accord D Desjardins retail financing, Desjardins gift cards) directly from your cash register.
